DIY Crow Garland By:Lauren

We have been flooded with photo shoots lately, and our Modern Momma is picking up the DIY slack around here!! She sent me this DIY and I immediately loved it; its so different and perfect for fall!!! Did I also mention its super easy to make!!

Crow garland

Once August hits all I can think about is fall and Halloween. It's my favorite time of year for everything! Fashion, cold weather, food and decorations. I seriously can't get enough!! I feel it's too early for total Halloween so I call this time my "pre-fall". Defiantly autumn things are out but not my scary stuff. So I thought I'd share with you my crow garland that I just made!

Only need a couple things for this DIY!
Wire
Needle nosed pliers
Crows (found mine at the dollar store)
Burlap

The crows are styrofoam so all I did was shove them on the wire (kept thinking of practical magic while doing each one). They also came with legs and i pulled them out. Then cut my burlap about an inch wide and maybe 18'' long and just accordion folded them on the wire in between the birds. Once I was done and liked the burlap/bird ratio I just looped the ends so I could hook the garland up.
Happy pre-fall everyone!

MOM MONDAYS: DIY FABRIC CORKS BOARDS

Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day yesterday! Hopefully your Mom isn't as stubborn as mine and demanded to cook a huge meal...don't get me wrong the ribs, truffle potatoes, asparagus, and corn was AMAZING, but I really just wanted her to relax. Like she ever listens to me anyways, I believe her exact words were "I'm the mom". HA!

...AND she was up first thing this morning creating her super cute DIY Mom Mondays project!

DIY FABRIC CORK BOARDS:

Need: Scrap Fabric(she actually raided the .99 bin at Joanne Fabrics), Cork, Glue Gun

TO DO: Cut our fabric square larger than your cork board. Lay our fabric and put your cork on top. Fold all 4 corners in and glue; then fold all 4 sides in and glue along the edge. Easy as that!

These are going to look adorable hanging in my sisters room; and would be also perfect in a kitchen or office!

Lots of home décor post coming up for 'Mom Mondays'! XOX

Mom Mondays: DIY Tulle Flowers

See, I told you she was back!;) I love these DIY Flowers for todays Mom Mondays! Unlike the tissue paper flowers that get wrinkled up in one times use, this tulle version can be re used over and over again! They also can get wet unlike the paper, as well as be stored and then just 'fluffed' up when your ready to use them again! It's pretty genius actually!

This is all you need to make these super fun reusable tulle balls:
 Tulle, Scissors, Magazine

{It takes apx 1 spool of 6" wide  to make each Pom Pom. ( I like them to be very full)}

Start by wrapping the tulle around a book or magazine 25 or 30 times. Use the short side of the Magazine for an 8 inch Pom or the long way for a 12 inch Pom!

Slide the tulle off of magazine and tie a piece of tulle in the middle of the loop. Make sure it's good and tight in a knot so that it doesn't slip.

Slide scissors through the loop and cut at each end.
Fluff up and there you have it.

MOM MONDAYS ARE BACK: The Best Guacamole you will EVER eat.

She's Back, She's BACK!!!! Who missed 'Mom Mondays'?!?!? I have been trying to talk my mom in to coming back for the past few weeks, and today I demanded it! :) She is making her famous guacamole for my craft night tomorrow, and I thought it would be fun to share the recipe! Seriously people beg her to make it for every party, and I swear people who don't even like guacamole, love hers!

Its actually super easy, and I have even learned how to make it to perfection....although its never quite the same as 'Mama Sales Guacamole'!

Start with 6 fresh avocados (firm but not hard)

4 plum tomatoes seeded prior to chopping (I like plum as they are meaty and are full of flavor

1 small red onion -- chopped fine

2-3 fresh jalapenos--chopped fine (jar type can be used but I like fresh whenever possible)

the juice of one lime (roll on counter prior to cutting in half to get the most juice)

1 large bunch of fresh cilantro--chopped (ONLY FRESH)

salt and pepper generously to taste

3-4 dashes of hot sauce

-------------------------------

Directions:
Cut avocados in half and remove pit.

cut a grid patten in avocado halves and scoop out with spoon--leave chunky

squeeze lime juice over entire bowl of avocado (for flavor but to also prevent browning

add remaining ingredients--mix & enjoy!!

Serve with hearty chips to hold up this chunky hearty dip!

Try a variation with roasted corn added.....soooo good!

This pic is actually from Tony's Mexican Fiesta    blog post, it's so good he even uses it!!!

TIP--cover with plastic wrap and push plastic to touch all guacamole and leave no air.....air is what causes it to brown by the following day!

Ps. How cute is it served in the left over avocado shell! Love it!
