What my HUSBAND'S Wearing Wednesday!

Decided to do something a little fun & different on this 'What I'm Wearing Wednesday'...

One of the many reason's I fell in love with my husband was his sense of style. Some of you may know this story, some of you may not, but I am the one who approached my husband when we first met, I picked him up HA; I went over too him grabbed his collar (of his very cute shirt), asked him to come to a party... and the rest was history!

As I mentioned in this BLOG POST he collects sneakers, and usually has different pair on everyday, he also is a big goodwill vintage shopper, and always tries to find the most unique tee-shirt in there! With it being winter, I decide to share his favorite flannel & pair of boots!! Stay tuned for a full on sneaker post coming soon;)!

ATE Presents: 'The Modern Momma'

I am beyond excited to introduce an addition to Ashley Thunder Events... Lauren Marie McLennan as 'The Modern Momma'!

In my age group it seems everyone around me is getting engaged, getting married, pregnant, trying to get pregnant, have a second child---you get the point! Since, we are kid-less for the time being, I have been thinking about introducing a guest 'mom' blogger....and I found the PERFECT person!!!

I have known Lauren for several years now, she actually did my make-up for my wedding, and it seems we are ALWAYS on the same page when it comes to fashion, DIY, home décor, etc..  We should probably only have one Pinterest Page, because we 'pin' all the same things anyways! It was only natural that at the exact time I was thinking about asking to feature her, she was messaging me suggesting the same idea!!!

Lauren is extremely creative and never afraid to try new things; after recently having her first child, an unbelievably adorable little guy named Mac, she has taken on a whole new meaning to the 'Modern Momma'; creating a super unique and eclectic nursery, making her own baby food, as well as staying true to herself in clothing that by no means screams 'mom clothes'! Lauren and I want to show the world that being a mom doesn't mean sacrificing your 'cool'! When she sent over this first blog post my exact words were "SHUUUTTT IT, LOVE IT" So I really hope you all do too!

I'm currently trying to talk her in to a once a week thing, so lets all encourage her to do so;)!

 The Modern Momma- By Lauren

You know when you can't find anything remotely non babyish but then you do; you look at the price and your jaw drops to the floor? Yeah been there done that...then the light bulb goes a off. Why don't I make this?! Duh. So here steps in my guinea pig 7 month old son Mac. We may not always see eye to eye on DIY but as a Modern Momma always says, 'I got this'!

DIY ARROW BABY BLANKIE

 All you need:
a bottle of any kind of fabric paint
A potato (I used a sweet potato Because it was longer)
Sponge paint brush
White Cotton blanket

Directions:

Lay out the blanket on the floor. I did mine on the kitchen floor so it made for an easy clean up. Make sure you iron the blanket first. Defiantly don't want you print coming out all wonkey.

I then cut my sweet potato in half. Try and get a really clean cut so the stamp is flat.
Once you pick your design (you can google any design but make sure it's a silhouette. Def makes it easier) lightly cut it into the potato.
After that chunk the dead space from around your pattern. Be carful not to break your pattern or you'll be using the other half of the potato.

When I finally got it to how I wanted it to look (ok really it was the best I could do before Mac was screaming for food)

I wiped it down with a paper towel and the did a trial run on another paper towel. There were a couple of sides I didn't cut away at good so I cut into it a little more, did a mother test run and it was perfect!!

All that was left to do was go to town!

I just love how Laurens first 'Modern Mamma' post came out!! I can see so many possibilities in this project!!! Stay tuned for her Homemade Teething Biscuits coming soon!!!

Hope everyone has an inspiring day!!

I'm am on a pinwheel kick lately and decided to make some cute party favor gift bags with them! I bought these adorable mini gift bags at walmart for 4/$1.00 and then with 1 large 12x12 cardstock you can make four pinwheels to go along with those bags! With the flower brads these adorable bags were only .30 to make! For such a small price you get such a big impact! With the endless color options they would be great favor bags for ANY occasion! I could totally see these lined up for a wedding candy bar!!! LOVE!

Wedding Shoes You Can Dance In...

Coming from the girl who wore Nike's on her wedding day...I HATE uncomfortable shoes, I know I know being in fashion that's pretty much against the law; but whatever I don't care... pain is beauty and all, blah blah blah, but I like to bust a move...and on my wedding day I did just that!

My husband is a sneaker collector, so I had the perfect out:

I ordered these customized Nike's for the both of us with the embroider 'A Carson & B Carson'...my grandma took it a step further and sewed the lace from my dress onto mine! I was obsessed  & looking back I still am! Go design your own pair HERE!

For those of you who want to be comfortable but don't want to necessarily wear a sneaker, I have come up with some super fab options for you...

Frank & Bean Fridays: 5 Inspiring Documentaries

How cute are my boys?!

Today is such a snowy day around here and I have been thinking about sharing my all time fav documentaries, so what better time!?! Documentaries are my favorite genre of film! When most people think of a documentary they think real life yes, but they also think BORING...but that's not the case at all!! I'm going to share my top 5 favorites; four of them deal with art or fashion, and then one is about a issue that I think is so unbelievably important! They all are SUPER entertaining so I hope you choose at least one to watch yourself!

In no particular order:

1. Exit Through the Gift Shop: A film about finding the talented infamous graffiti artist Banksy. An amazingly colorful film dedicated to the beautiful, difficult, & illegal work of graffiti artist. Watch this you will NOT be disappointed or bored, I can promise you that!

2.The September Issue: An incredibly interesting & shocking, yet funny look into the life of the editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintours. This is a awesome look at the weeks & weeks of preparation that goes into 'The September Issue' of Vogue!

3. Style Wars: A really cool behind the 'streets' look at street art! This is a oldie but goodie, and happens to by my husbands all-time favorite documentary!

4. The Cove: This is the one that I was telling you about that is not about fashion or art, but about a very serious issue in my mind. For as long as I can remember, I have loved dolphins, sharks, and all things in the sea...I was that little girl that wanted to be a marine biologist, haha... This movie follows a world famous dolphin trainer turned activist behind the scenes of dolphin killing & capturing. I dare you to watch this...I haven't been to shed aquarium since. After you watch this you will have an entirely different outlook on the precious like of our sea mammals. There are also ways at the end of the movie to help out!

5.Bill Cunningham New York: I swear you DO NOT have to be into fashion to LOVE this movie! This guy is SO fascinating, smart, and cool...I may have just realized I have a crush on a old man! ha! Bill Cunningham has been riding around on his bicycle for years taking pictures of what he sees on the streets of New York!! Just watch it, you'll love it!

Have a great day! Find something to be inspired by today!!
